Sailing Solo as a Fashion Entrepreneur
Back when I wrote this blog post—originally published to Her Campus UVic—luxury resale was not mainstream the way it is today. There was still a sense that shopping second-hand was a second-choice endeavour. Fast forward to today (Spring 2026), and there is a reverence for shopping from past collections. If anything, it seems to emote that the consumer has a firm grasp of fashion history and a respect for the environment, which only seems to bolster one’s cool factor—especially in a stylish city like Vancouver that is resplendent with natural beauty.
Scars That Sparkle
Many years ago, I was tasked with assembling a prototype magazine focused on mental health. As such, I was seeking a story that was emblematic of the profound, positive articles “Lighthouse Magazine” would publish. When I saw these beautiful photos of Victoria residents covered in sparkles, I knew I had a compelling story.
