#CaregiverAware2021: A National Family Caregiver Campaign

During my tenure as Communications Coordinator at Family Caregivers of BC, I was asked to lead a month-long national marketing campaign for Family Caregiver Month. I had successfully innovated and managed our crisis communication plan during the pandemic (a time when caregivers were in particular distress), so, my team trusted me with this endeavour. In summary, I published and/or organized:
Numerous meetings to collaborate with the National Caregiving Working Group
A website page featuring A Proclamation from The Provincial Government of British Columbia
An article titled “Are You Caregiver Aware?”, co-written by myself and Barb MacLean
A media kit that I designed and shared with other provincial organizations and stakeholders
Four themed weekly e-newsletters (Week One, Week Two, Week Three, Week Four)
A myriad of themed resources
Sixteen grant organization highlights
Four caregiver stories published to our website, which I organized and copy-edited (Pat’s Story, Linda’s Story, Dana’s Story, Bev’s Story)
Two Facebook live sessions
Two events for caregivers
Daily social media posts across all platforms
“I want to take a moment to say a BIG congrats and thanks to Carly for leading our team planning with the May 2021 #caregiveraware Campaign...The finished product demonstrated amazing focused work that pulled together a campaign with an exceptional look and feel, valuable content, strong caregiver voices and fun community engagement opportunities for caregivers.”
Overall, we increased our following on all social media platforms throughout the month, boosted traffic to our website, and had great attendance at all of our virtual events. We even got shout-outs from Katherine Dudtschak and Martin Thibodeau from RBC—shout-outs we had been striving to receive for years as an organization. Our team was thrilled to declare this a tremendously successful campaign, setting the bar for years to come.
